Jono Bacon is the community manager for Ubuntu, the open source Linux operating system that’s finally starting to give Windows a run for its money when it comes to consumer-readiness. He’s recently published what appears to be an interesting, practical guidebook for building and managing communities. There are chapters on planning, building, measuring and governing your community.
We’re seeing the successes of enthusiastic, authentic communities daily – online and in community events such as BarCamp, DemoCamp, CaseCamp, Ignite or HealthCamp. This book, from a long-term practitioner, provides valuable guidance and insight into participating in what’s already out there, or starting your own.
The book is published by O’Reilly and should be widely available. Best of all, you can also get it as a free download under a Creative Commons license. Rummage for it on the Art of Community companion website, or download it directly (it took me a while to find the link).
Congrats on your new blog, Carsten. Looks brilliant.
Thanks, Jane-Anne. Appreciate the comment. I’m excited about it :)
